Men’s Soccer Powers Past Menlo College in Exhibition Opener

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer scored three unanswered goals to power past Menlo College 3-1 in the exhibition opener on Monday night at Stevens Stadium.

Nicholas Cudini, Juan O'Neill and Dylan Bartlett each tallied a goal after the Broncos conceded the opening goal to the Oaks' Mattia Celant in the 21st minute.

Santa Clara answered three minutes later when Cudini headed in a goal from six yards out off a free kick from Tyrone Kirunda to knot the game at 1-all.

The Broncos opened the second half with a different lineup than in the opening half.  The team was comprised of the primary starters who came up with the go ahead goal eight minutes in when Alex Achramowicz fed O'Neill to put the Broncos up 2-1.

SCU added an insurance goal in the 64th minute on Bartlett's goal courtesy of Timmy Rast's assist.

The Broncos dominated play outshooting the Oaks 13-1 and had an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks in the 70 minute game.

Benjamin Fish was credited with six saves for Menlo College.

The Broncos will take the pitch again on Tuesday in a road contest at UC Davis.  Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
