SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer has hired Riley Hanley as an assistant coach who served in the same capacity at UC Santa Cruz the past four seasons.

"Riley is a great hire for us.  His background in the game coupled with his work ethic and desire to help players will be instrumental for our team," said Broncos head coach Cam Rast.  "He is someone who will hit the ground running and help us continue our momentum."

Along with his duties at UCSC, Hanley was also a youth and fitness coach at the Santa Cruz Breakers Academy since 2018.

"I am excited to join a winning soccer program here at Santa Clara and to learn from some of the best college coaches," said Hanley.  "I hope I can bring another perspective and different ideas to build on the strong foundations that have been laid down. I'm looking forward to helping lead this team of young men on and off the field."

Prior to his stint at UCSC and at the Breakers Academy, Hanley played professionally for the Reno 1868 FC, the San Jose Earthquakes USL affiliate, in 2017.  He also had multiple training stints with MLS and USL team with the San Jose Earthquakes and Houston Dynamo.

Hanley's collegiate playing experience encompassed a four-year career at Saint's Mary where he was part of the school's first-ever West Coast Conference championship and an NCAA Elite 8 appearance in 2011.

He played in 58 matches from 2011-14 for the Gaels and was named to the WCC All-Freshman team and tallied a goal at No. 7 UC Irvine in the NCAA Tournament to send the team to the Sweet Sixteen round.

The Mountain View, California native received his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Saint Mary's.
