Men's Soccer Looks to Capture WCC Title vs Portland on Senior Day

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 23-20-8 all-time against Portland with the first meeting coming in 1978. The last meeting was a 2-0 Broncos victory in the spring on goals by Javier Ruiz Duran and Oladayo Thomas.

NOTES

  • Santa Clara sits alone atop the West Coast Conference standings with 13 points on a 4-0-1 league record.  A Bronco win on Saturday will clinch the WCC Championship.
  • Saturday is Senior Day where nine Bronco seniors will be recognized prior to kickoff: Alex Achramowicz, Alejandro Barajas, Keanu Born, Sakari Carter, Andreu Cases Mundet, Nicholas Cudini, Juan O'Neill, Javier Ruiz Duran and Ruben Stuiver.
  • Senior Day ceremony will begin around 6:40 p.m.
  • Santa Clara has won 13 of its last 17 games dating back to the spring season.  The Broncos are 13-1-3 during that span and are unbeaten in the last 10 contests (7-0-3). 
  • The lone loss this season was at then No. 2-ranked Georgetown, 1-0. 
  • Forward Oladayo Thomas leads the West Coast Conference in points (21), goals (eight) and shots (48).  He is third in the leagues in assists with five.
  • Thomas had logged a point in six-straight games (four goals & four assists during the span), tied for the third longest streak in Bronco history alongside Paul Bravo in 1989, before it was snapped against San Diego.
  • Midfielder Javier Ruiz Duran leads the WCC with eight assists and is third in points (14).
  • Seven different Bronco player has scored the game-winning goal this fall.  Thomas, Ruiz Duran and Joshua Dabora are the only players with two gamewinners.
  • Forward Joshua Dabora has five goals and an assist in the last five games and is tied for third in the WCC in goals. 
  • The Broncos have conceded just three goals in the first half all season.  It came against Pacific, San Diego and Gonzaga.  
  • Santa Clara has been to 20 NCAA Tournaments, five College Cups (1989, 1991, 1998, 1999, 2003) and won one National Championship (1989).
  • The Broncos have won the West Coast Conference 12 times (1989, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2015).
  • Head coach Cam Rast is in his 20th year as the head coach. He owns a 187-135-54 career record and is Santa Clara men's soccer's winningest coach.  A Santa Clara University alumnus, Rast has led his alma mater to seven NCAA tournaments and five West Coast Conference Championships since taking over the Bronco men's soccer program in 2002. A former All-America player on Santa Clara's National Championship team of 1989 and U.S. Olympic Team captain in 1992, Rast spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at SCU from 1994-2001.

EVENT PROTOCOL - OUTDOOR
All Santa Clara Athletics home events will operate in compliance with state, county, and university COVID-19 guidelines. While masks are not required for outdoor events on campus, we highly encourage fans to wear masks especially when social distancing guidelines cannot be met or when others around you are eating or drinking. Seating in Stevens Stadium is general admission and we encourage everyone to utilize appropriate social distancing in the stands and common areas. Updates will be provided should there be an adjustment in protocol.

TICKETS
Tickets are priced at $12 each for this match and available either online or at Stevens Stadium prior to the match. Purchase tickets online and avoid waiting at the stadium box office which opens one hour prior to kickoff. With Saturday's match being the Broncos final regular season home game, the team is running a special promo for all fans that come out; Spin the Wheel, Get a Deal.  Every fan that comes to the game will get one opportunity to spin the Bronco Prize Wheel. Whatever the wheel lands on, that is the prize that fan goes home with.

PARKING
For weekday matches, the Leavey Center lot (see below for access), located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to kickoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive.
