Men’s Soccer Holds on for a 3-2 Victory Over San Diego

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Joshua Dabora scored a pair of goals and Alex Achramowicz added another as Santa Clara men's soccer held on for a 3-2 win over San Diego in a West Coast Conference contest on Saturday night.

Santa Clara (8-1-3, 2-0-1) displayed their offensive firepower early, scoring three goals in the opening 30 minutes for the second consecutive week.

Achramowicz put the Broncos on the board in the sixth minute getting behind the Toreros defense to receive a diagonal through ball from Juan O'Neill and slotting it past the goalkeeper Berk Watson.

Dabora followed with goals in the 21st and 30th minutes to put the Broncos up 3-0.

The goal in the 21st minute started on a corner kick from Javier Ruiz Duran that Caden Buckley headed back centrally from the edge of the six-yard box that Dabora headed in over the diving Watson.

Nine minutes later, Dabora cleaned up a loose call in front of the goal for an easy tap in.

San Diego (1-12, 0-3) got one back on a header from Nicklas Clausen off a Mason Turnbridge corner in the 35th minute to cut into the Broncos lead at 3-1.

The Toreros struck again early in second half on Clausen's second goal of the match.  Rhys Gourdie's through ball from past midfield found Clausen just outside the 18 who snuck it past Broncos goalkeeper Andreu Cases Mundet to the near post.  That goal came in the 52nd minute but it was the last goal for either team as the Broncos held on the rest of the way.

The win kept the Broncos atop the WCC standings alongside their next opponent, Saint Mary's.

Watson made four saves with Cases Mundet credited for one.

Ruiz Duran assisted in the first two Bronco goals.

A total of seven yellow cards were issued, five for Santa Clara and two for San Diego.

• Santa Clara is 35-15-5 all-time against San Diego.
Oladayo Thomas had his six-game point streak snapped, a mark that tied him for the third longest streak in Bronco history alongside Paul Bravo in 1989.
