Stoecker Named WCC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

WCC Release

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer goalkeeper Jack Stoecker garnered West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday after saving 11 shots against LMU in the regular season finale over the weekend.

Santa Clara and LMU played to a scoreless draw in double overtime as the Broncos finished undefeated in the WCC (5-0-2) for the fourth time in program history.

With the conference championship locked up, SCU had one regular starter in the starting lineup and was under siege by the LMU offense throughout the match.

LMU outshot the Broncos 42-3 but the second-year player from Westminster, Colorado turned away 11 of those shots in his Bronco debut without conceding one.

It is the first such honor for Stoecker and the third week in a row and fifth overall this fall that a Bronco player has earned WCC Player of the Week honors. Last week, Oladayo Thomas was named WCC offensive player of the week following Javier Ruiz Duran's WCC's co-offensive player of week recognition on Nov. 1.  Dylan Bartlett was named conference offensive player of the week on September 20 and Dominic Vegaalban was recognized on October 18
