Men’s Soccer Picks Up Sunday Win Over Dixie State

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Jack Murphy and Dylan Bartlett came off the bench to each score a goal in Santa Clara men's soccer's 2-0 win over Dixie State on Sunday afternoon to help the Broncos close out the weekend with two wins at Stevens Stadium.

Murphy also had an assist and Oladayo Thomas had a hand in each goal.

The Broncos (6-1) got on the board in the 39th minute when Thomas barreled through the Dixie State defense and turned to feed Murphy just outside the six yard box where he slotted the ball off the hand of goalkeeper Jakob Moore to get the Broncos on the board.

For Murphy, a transfer from Fordham in his second season with the program, it was his first career goal in a Bronco uniform.

Holding to a 1-0 lead at intermission, Santa Clara added to their lead when Bartlett found the back of the net on a string of one touch passes.  Thomas flicked a throw in to Murphy who one timed it to Bartlett at the top of the six and headed the ball in over the on-rushing Moore to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead.

It was the second goal in as many games for the sophomore from Palos Verdes, California.

In the 71st minute, the Trailblazers (1-6) had a golden opportunity to cut the Broncos lead in half when Tony Foulger's header struck the crossbar.

The Broncos who entered the weekend fourth in the nation in shot accuracy at 51-percent finished 7-for-13 (54-percent) on the game while the Trailblazers were 2-for-7.

Santa Clara goalkeeper Andreu Cases Mundet made two saves to record his fourth shutout of the season.  Moore had five saves.
