2022 MLS SuperDraft Selections
NEW YORK – Santa Clara men's soccer player Julian Bravo was selected in the second round, 55th overall, by the Portland Timbers in the 2022 Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Tuesday.
Last season, the senior defender started in 15 of 16 matches for the Broncos and anchored a defense that allowed just 0.88 goals per game to help lead the team to a West Coast Conference Championship and into the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
"The team had a really good year and Julian was one of the big reasons," said Broncos head coach Cam Rast. "His play was consistent on both sides of the ball, solid in the defending and effective in the attack. He transitioned from an attacking role to one focused primarily on defending."
The Claremont, California native logged 1,479 minutes, primarily from his left back position.
In his four years on the Mission Campus, Bravo played in 55 games and tallied four goals and six assists including the game-winner against Holy Cross in the 2019 season opener.
"His development has been truly outstanding. This year has been a breakout year for Julian and we only see him getting better from here," said Rast.
