FULLERTON, Calif. - Oladayo Thomas delivered a second-half equalizer and No. 22 Santa Clara men's soccer salvaged a 1-1 draw with Cal State Fullerton on Friday night at Titans Stadium.
Thomas, who entered the game tied atop the West Coast Conference lead in goals tallied his fifth of the season, heading in the ball on a cross from Dylan Bartlett in the 57th minute.
Only a few minutes earlier, in the 54th minute, Dylan Robinson opened the scoring for Cal State Fullerton (2-4-2) when his header found the back of the net off a corner kick from Sebastian Cruz.
The Broncos (6-1-1) had dominated play until the Titans goal.
Santa Clara outshot Cal State Fullerton 8-1 in the opening 45 minutes with half of them on target. The best chance came in the 32nd minute on a Titans turnover inside the 18 when goalkeeper Jose Espino and a defender collided. With Espino still on the ground, Javier Ruiz Duran picked up the loose ball but his shot hit the woodwork.
Cal State Fullerton closed the second half on a strong note putting up five shots, three of them on frame, in a 10-minute stretch but could not break the 1-all deadlock.
Neither team had a dangerous chance in the two overtime sessions.
SCU finished with a 17-11 advantage in shots but the Titans put seven on frame, two more than the Broncos.
Andreu Cases Mundet finished with six saves for the Broncos compared to four for Espino.
