WEST POINT, Miss. - Sarah Busey of Santa Clara women's golf had a strong showing in her first-ever appearance in the U.S. Amateur Championship.

Busey, who will be a junior in the fall, missed the cut at the 119th edition of the annual event, but made a charge in Tuesday's second round when she shot a 1-over-par 73.

However, the native of Racine, Wisconsin, was unable to make up enough ground in the 36 holes of stroke play to reach match play, which featured 64 golfers. She finished at 6-over 150, three strokes off the pace.

Busey reached the U.S. Amateur by finishing tied for fourth at sectional qualifying at The Preserve at Oak Meadows in Addison, Illinois, in July.

After earning 2018-19 All-West Coast Conference honors, Busey has continued her strong play in the summer. In June, she defended her Wisconsin State Golf Association Match Play title and last month won the Wisconsin State Amateur Championship.
