SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With just one tournament played so far this spring, Santa Clara women's golf aims to make up ground starting Monday at the BYU at Entrada Classic. The 12-team field will play 54 holes on the 6,082-yard, par-72 Entrada at Snow Canyon Golf Course in St. George, Utah, over two days.

With most teams having completed several events this spring, the Broncos are pegging it up for only the second time after the spring opener last month was cancelled. They are coming off a 12th-place finish in The Gold Rush two weeks ago.

"We had two great weeks of practice so now we're looking to put it all together," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "We have been working more on process goals and that will be key for this course."

The Broncos have competed in this event the last two years and Kelly is aware of the problems the course presents. "You can't get ahead of yourself here," she said. "There are several incredibly challenging holes so they will need to play smart and be efficient."

Juniors Sarah Busey and Emily Sumner are familiar with the layout having competed in each of the last two years. Sumner has two top-25s while Busey tied for 25th here last year. The duo anchors Santa Clara's five-player contingent that also includes sophomore Claire Choi, senior Chloe Wong and junior Anne-Claire Tande.

In a season with no team finishes better than 10th, Choi has been the most consistent performer. She tops the squad with a 75.67 stroke average and, along with Busey, has been the top individual performer in three of five events the entire season.

The field is highlighted by No. 55 North Texas and fellow WCC member and tournament host BYU, ranked No. 60 in the most recent Golfstat.com poll. The rest of the field is tightly packed in the rankings with the Broncos at No. 175.

"We've had good stretches," Kelly said. "It's about closing out the rounds and, ultimately, being more consistent. Our main goal this week is to play fearless golf."

The field will play 36 holes on Monday with a shotgun start format at 7:30 a.m. PT. Live scoring is available here.
