ST. GEORGE, Utah – Santa Clara women's golf carded its fifth-lowest score of the entire season with a 306 in Monday's first round of the BYU at Entrada Classic, completing the opening 36 holes tied for sixth with a total of 616.

The Broncos were tied for fourth after the opening 18 holes but fell into a tie for sixth with a second-round 310. North Texas, the highest ranked team in the field, took a 21-swing lead into the clubhouse.

"The first round was good," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "The team got a little tired toward the end of the second round. The course is challenging so it's easy to get mentally fatigued. Overall we are making progress."

Individually the Broncos were led by Sarah Busey, who grabbed a share of 13th place at 7-over 151. Her second round 2-over 74 matched the team's lowest round of the day.

Playing in just her second tournament of the entire season, Emily Sumner opened with a 74 but fell off the pace with a second-round 83. She's tied for 39th at 157.

"It was great to see both Emily and Sarah post a solid round," Kelly said of her junior leaders. "Now we just need more consistency."

Senior Chloe Wong scored 77-79 and sophomore Claire Choi was 78-78 to tie for 36th with one other golfer at 156. Junior Anne-Claire Tande ended the day at 159 (80-79).

"We were fourth after the first round," Kelly noted. "We will definitely make some adjustments in club selection tomorrow."

Lauren Cox and Patricia Sinolungan of North Texas were the only sub-par scorers on the 6,082 yard Entrada at Snow Canyon Golf Course, sharing the clubhouse lead at 3-under 141.
