SANTA CLARA, Calif. – A trip down south to compete in the Battle at the Rock opens the spring season for Santa Clara women's golf. The 17-team field will play 54 holes over two days starting Monday at the 6,093-yard, par-72 Oak Quarry Golf Club in Riverside, Calif.
The Broncos had just one top-10 finish in the fall and look forward to a new start in the spring at an event where they've enjoyed success. Junior Sarah Busey notched a top-5 finish to propel the Broncos to a third-place showing last year. Santa Clara won the team title at this event in 2016.
Head coach Krystal Kelly worked diligently with the team over the break and is hopeful results follow. "I switched things up at practice and I firmly believe it's going to transform our game," Kelly said. "We've made tremendous progress over the last four weeks. I'm really excited to see how we play this week."
Busey played all 12 rounds in the fall leading the team with a 75.42 scoring average. She'll be joined by sophomore Claire Choi, who averaged 75.50 while also playing every round. Seniors Isabella Seeburger, Chloe Wong, and sophomore Naomi Wong complete Santa Clara's lineup in the first of five tournaments leading up to the West Coast Conference championship in April.
