Women’s Golf At Ptarmigan Ram Classic Starting Monday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's golf returns to the links Monday for the first two rounds of the 13-team Ptarmigan Ram Classic, hosted by Colorado State University at the 6,466-yard, par-72 Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo.

The tournament concludes with a single 18-hole final round on Tuesday.

The Broncos opened their 2019-20 season two weeks ago with a 10th-place showing at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic where sophomore Claire Choi earned her career-best finish by sharing fourth-place with 3-over 216 total. It was also the second time in 11 career starts she was the team's top finisher.

"We had a good week of practice going into this event," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "I'm looking for some consistent scoring this week while focusing on the process instead of the outcome."

Preseason All-WCC pick junior Sarah Busey tied for 27th at Hobble Creek and is part of Santa Clara's five-player contingent that includes four holdovers from the season opener. Seniors Marni Murez and Isabella Seeburger are the other two.

Sophomore Naomi Wong will be competing in just her second event as a Bronco and her first as a team member. She played as an individual at last season's Fresno State Classic.

The field will be a familiar one to the Broncos with seven squads that competed at Hobble Creek scheduled to peg it up in Colorado. Santa Clara bested four of those squads. However, the layout is new.

"I've only seen this course once before, my first year at SCU so it will be new to all of us," Kelly added.

First-round play at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic gets underway Monday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. PT. Live scoring is available by clicking here.
