SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After having its season-opening tournament canceled due to poor playing conditions, Santa Clara women's golf is anxious to get going at The Gold Rush starting Monday.

The field of 13 schools will play 54 holes over two days on the 6,169-yard, par-72 Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif.

Nine Broncos make the trip south for the spring opener and the team welcomes back junior Emily Sumner, who missed the entire fall campaign. During her sophomore season Sumner played in all 10 events compiling a 73.97 scoring average to place second on the squad behind Sarah Busey.

Joining those two on the five-player team are sophomores Claire Choi, Naomi Wong, and senior Marni Murez.

Four upperclassmen will compete as a 'B' team led by seniors Isabella Seeburger and Chloe Wong. Juniors Anne-Claire Tande and Vanessa Giampaoli will compete for the first time this year.

Six of the 13 teams scheduled to compete are ranked in the top-100 according to the recent Golfstat.com poll with Charlotte the highest ranked squad at No. 27. Georgia (38), Sacramento State (54), BYU (58), Fresno State (74) and New Mexico State (86) round out the top six. The Broncos enter at No. 177 and can make up some ground in the rankings in their first event of the spring.

First round play will open with an 8 a.m. shotgun start with the second 18 holes following immediately. Live scoring updates are available by clicking here.
