Santa Clara Third After 18 Holes At Saint Mary's Invitational

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - Santa Clara men's golf turned in an outstanding opening round in the day one of the Saint Mary's Invitational, carding a 3-under 281 on Monday to finish the day in third place. The Broncos are just six strokes behind the leader, San Diego (275). 

Nolan Forsman led the way for the Broncos with a 2-under 69 that including three-straight birdies on Nos. 3-5 and five birdie putts in total. The senior is currently tied for eighth. Just behind Forsman is teammate Eugenio Bernardi, who carded a 1-under 70 with five birdies. The freshman also rolled in three-straight birdies on Nos. 4-6 and is currently tied for 12th.

Viraj Garewal and Calder Overfelt are tied for 19th at even par and Oscar Zimmerman, playing as an individual is tied for 29th at 1-over 72. Zimmerman had the shot of the day with an eagle on the par-5 No. 9. Alex Conley rounds out the Broncos contingent with a tie for 53rd at 3-over 74. 

LMU's Riley Lewis leads the field of 92 at 6-under 65.

The Broncos will look to keep the low scores flowing tomorrow in the second round. Santa Clara tees off the day on No. 10 at 8:25 a.m. PT.
