DAVIS - Santa Clara men's golf continued to post solid rounds today, especially Julien Paltrinieri and Viraj Garewal who are still sitting within the top 10 of individuals at the El Macero Classic.
Paltrinieri yet again had the best round of the day for the Broncos as he shot a 1-under 71 to go 5 under overall and sit in a tie for 6th; his round included four birdies but unfortunately took a double bogey on No. 9. Garewal was 2-over through his first 14 holes but continued to fight as he went 2-under through his final four to shoot a Round 2 even 72 and be at 3-under overall; his round included five birdies and is in the T9th position. Eugenio Bernardi also shot an even par 72, doing it in an even simpler way as he had just two birdies and two bogeys on the day to be in T49 at 2-over.
Calder Overfelt struggled on the back-9 where were his first nine holes of the day as he went 5-over but rebounded on the front-9 as he went 1-under to post a 4-over 76; he is currently in the T77 position at 7-over. Cameron Kaiser improved upon his Round 1 score today by shooting a 5-over 77 which included two birdies and lacked a double bogey on the card. At 15-over overall he is sitting in 99th place.
The Broncos couldn't quite remake the magic of the first round but were close as they played just five shots worse and only dropped one place in the team rankings to put themselves in solo 9th. 46th-ranked San Francisco and Loyola Marymount lead the field at 9-under overall with USF Don Matthew Anderson in the first spot as an individual at 9-under after the two rounds. The Broncos go out earlier tomorrow at 8:30 AM PT to finish out their stay in Davis at the El Macero Classic.
