TUCSON, Ariz. - Graduate students Julien Paltrinieri and Viraj Garewal, and Senior Nolan Forsman all finished around par or better following the conclusion of their third and final rounds at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate.
Paltrinieri (68-71-73--212) particularly shined as he came out hot carding a 4-under first round and continued to stay steady as he ended up at 4-under overall, earning a T19th finish, recording 11 of 54 holes under par and only seven over par.
Forsman (73-73-71--217) and Garewal (71-72-75--218) were not too far behind their fellow Bronco as they placed T41st at 1-over and T45th at 2-over, respectively. Calder Overfelt (77-73-72--222) showed improvement after struggling in the first round, finishing 67th at 6-over. Eugenio Bernardi (73-74-78--225) wasn't able to gain much momentum later in the tournament, but he and Garewal were the only Broncos to not have a double-bogey on their cards throughout the two-day stretch.
Texas A&M (36-under 828) maintained their lead into Day Two taking the team title, much thanks to a cumulative 18-under 270 in the first round. Host-Arizona (33-under 825) finished not far behind in second and 10 shots clear of Cal. BYU's Zac Jones took home the individual title finishing with an even 200 and at 16-under par.
As a team, the Broncos placed 10th out of the 15-team field with a 1-over 865 and will be back in Arizona at the beginning of March for the Desert Mountain Collegiate in Scottsdale. For now, they will take a two-week break before heading to the islands to compete in Hawai'i at the John Burns Intercollegiate.
