Paltrinieri Qualifies For NCAA Championship

INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee has selected the teams and individuals to participate in the regional rounds of the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, and Santa Clara's Julien Paltrinieri was among the group of individuals selected.

The graduate student will take part in the Morgan Hill Regional played at the Institute Golf Club just down the road in Morgan Hill, Calif., May 17-19. It is one of six regionals that will be played during those dates in a 54-hole format. The top five teams and the top individual from each regional will advance to the National Championship in Scottsdale, Ariz., which will be played May 26-31 at the Grayhawk Golf Club.

Paltrinieri is the first Bronco men's golfer to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Matt McCarty in 2021.

"We are so excited for Julien," head coach Andrew Larkin said. "He has earned this opportunity through this hard work and now has a chance to cap off a great collegiate career with an NCAA Tournament bid. Julien rises to the moment under the most pressure and we cna't wait to see what he does at the regionals."

Recently named an All-WCC selection, Paltrinieri has had an outstanding lone season as a Bronco. He leads the team in scoring average at 71.69 strokes per round and notched a team-high eight top-20 finishes, including his last outing where he placed 16th at the WCC Championship at 2-over. The Milan, Italy product turned in his top finish of the year at the John Burns Intercollegiate where he was under par in all three rounds, including an incredible 63 in the final round. That final round total stands as the lowest 18-hole score by a Bronco since none other than McCarty turned in a program-record 61 in 2018.
