SAN FRANCISCO - Santa Clara men's golf turned in yet another solid team round on Saturday in the final round of the Goodwin, finishing with an even-par 280 to climb two more spots for an eighth-place finish at 7-over 847 where they tied with No. 28 Oregon.
Julien Paltrinieri was the Broncos' top individual once again after carding a 1-under 69 for the second-straight day. He finished with just one bogey on his card and climbed 14 spots to finish in a tie for 11th, his team-best sixth top-20 finish this season, at 1-under 71-69-69--209.
Viraj Garewal climbed 14 spots of his own to sneak his way into the top 25 with an even-par 70 on the day that put him in a tie for 24th at 1-over 73-68-70--211. Calder Overfelt finished t-78th at 8-over 72-70-76--218 while Eugenio Bernardi used his best round of the three-day tournament to climb a whopping 41 spots to finish in a tie for 88th at 9-over 219. Bernardi was 1-under 69 on Saturday with four birdies on the front nine, including three straight on holes 1-3. Nolan Forsman also jumped up the leaderboard on the final day with a 2-over 72 to put himself in a tie for 95th 10-over 220.
No. 13 Oklahoma shot a day-low 6-under 274 to distance themselves from No. 11 Georgia Tech for the championship title and also boasted the individual medalist in Ben Lorenz, who capped off a great weekend with a 67 in the final round to finish 9-under 201.
Santa Clara has just one tournament left in the regular season before making their way to Bremerton, Wash. for the 2023 WCC Championship. The Broncos will play in the El Macero Classic hosted by UC Davis in Davis, Calif. April 14-16.
