PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - Santa Clara men's golf is still sitting in a great position following 36 holes of action at the Saint Mary's Invitational. The Broncos carded a 9-over 293 in Tuesday's second round to tie with LMU for third place 6-over 574. They will look to hold on to that top three spot in tomorrow's final round, which begins at 9:45 a.m. PT.
Viraj Garewal was the lone Bronco to turn in an even-par for the day, doing so with four birdies on the card. He enters the final round as Santa Clara's top individual in a tie for eighth even par-71-71--142. Nolan Forsman is just one shot behind his teammate in a tie for 13th at 1-over 69-74--143.
Alex Conley had the biggest jump of the day for the Broncos, climbing 26 spots with a 1-over 72 that included four birdies on the back nine. He is currently tied for 27th at 4-over 74-72--146 and just one stroke ahead of the freshman duo of Calder Overfelt (71-76--147) and Eugenio Bernardi (70-77--147), who are tied for 30th. Oscar Zimmerman, playing as an individual, is tied for 63rd at 10-over 72-80--152.
San Diego turned in the best team round of the day of 3-over 287 to put a firm grip on the lead. The Torreros (562) hold a 10-stroke lead over Colorado State (572) with the Broncos just behind at 574. San Diego's David Rauch and Fresno State's Matthew Manganello are tied for the individual lead at 6-under 136.
