STANFORD, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis opened up competition at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Friday in Stanford, California. The Broncos advanced a doubles team to the round of 32 as well as senior Nabila Farah in the singles bracket. Competition resumes at Taube Family Tennis Center on Saturday at 9 a.m. PT.

Farah defeated Kara Okazaki (Portland) in the round of 128, 6-2, 6-1, then followed up that performance with a tough win over Georgia Lawson (Fresno State), 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Farah will face No. 8 seed Melissa Lord (Stanford) on Saturday at 10 a.m. PT.

"Nabila (Farah) had a really good day," head coach Ben Cabell said. "She had two really good wins and will face a tough test tomorrow morning."

In the doubles bracket, sophomore Madison Clarke and Farah won a close match in the round of 64, defeating Galina Bykova and Abigail Watanabe (Fresno State), 8-7 (3). Clarke and Farah will face the No. 2 seeded Caroline Doyle and Lord (Stanford) on Saturday at 9 a.m. PT.

"Nabila (Farah) and Madison (Clarke) had a nice first match together," Cabell said. "They pulled it out and played well. They will have a real test tomorrow against Stanford. They are facing a very good doubles team so that'll be good for them. But they had a good performance today."
