STOCKTON, Calif. – Santiago Hinojosa won a pair of three set matches to advance to the Flight A semifinals of the Pacific Tiger Invitational on Saturday.
The Bronco sophomore beat Tadiwa Chinamo of Pacific 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the round of 16, followed by a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over Paul Giraud of San Francisco in the quarterfinals. Hinojosa, who had a first round bye due to his seeding (third), will face UC Davis' Andrei Volgin in the semifinals on Sunday morning.
Arthur Neuhaus, who had a strong first day at the tournament on Friday with three total wins, lost to UC Davis' Arjith Jayaraman, 6-4, 7-5, in the round of 16 of the Flight A singles bracket. He also fell in the Flight A doubles bracket to San Francisco's Giraud and Nitzan Ricklis, 8-4, while paired up with Ryan Ali.
Ali did pick up a singles win in the Flight A consolation bracket over Jaiver Luque of Holy Names.
Freshman Matthew Rodriguez lost in the Flight B quarterfinals to San Francisco's Johan Garpered, 6-1, 6-3.
