FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State won four times in singles and secured the doubles point to post a 5-2 win over Santa Clara men's tennis on Saturday.
Zdenek Derkas and Daniel Baturyn combined to win in doubles and were each victorious in singles for the 48th-ranked Bulldogs (8-5) in their fourth-straight triumph.
After falling to Cagatay Soke and Johannes Seeman in doubles, Santa Clara's Mann Shah and Vasileios Iliopoulos won in singles.
Shah defeated Seeman 6-4, 7-6 on court two and Iliopoulos downed Cagatay Soke 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 at the No. 4 position. Iliopoulos won his sixth-straight singles match.
The Broncos (4-7) pushed the Bulldogs to three sets in three of the other four singles matches, but fell in each one.
Zdenek Derkas defeated Jesus Tapiador Barajas 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 at the top position, Alexey Aleschev knocked off Arthur Neuhaus 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 on the third court and Daniel Baturyn downed Ryan Ali 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot.
Fresno State's Henrique Osorio swept Santiago Hinojosa 7-6, 6-1 on court five.
Neuhaus and Ali combined to defeat Alexey Aleschev and Henrique Osorio 6-3, but Derkas and Baturyn knocked off Barajas and Hinojosa by a score of 6-3 to snag the double point.
