Men’s Tennis Loses to UC Davis 4-3 on Saturday

DAVIS, Calif. - Arjith Jayaraman defeated Santiago Hinojosa on court five to clinch the match for UC Davis 4-3 over Santa Clara men's tennis on Saturday afternoon.

Jayaraman won 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) that gave the Aggies a 4-1 advantage on the team score.

UC Davis picked up the doubles point when the doubles team of Ivan Thamma and Chethan Swanson defeated Arthur Neuhaus and Vasileios Iliopoulos 6-4 on court one after Andrei Volgin and Daniel Landa blanked Jesus Tapiador Barajas and Santiago Hinojosa 6-0 on court two.

The Aggies (6-3) took the first singles match on Thamma's 6-3, 6-2 win over Tapiador Barajas at No. 1 to go up 2-0.

Playing up in the No. 2 spot in the lineup for the first time this spring, Mann Shah delivered with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Andras Necz to cut the Aggies advantage to 2-1.

However, Dariush Jalali pushed the lead up to 3-1 with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Nick Cmager at No. 6 before Jayaraman's clincher.

Arthur Neuhaus and Vasileios Iliopoulos each picked up three set wins to close the team score to 4-3.

The Broncos are off next week and next play at Fresno State on March 7.
