SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis won the first five points en route to a convincing 5-2 victory over Utah State on Wednesday afternoon at the Degheri Tennis Center.
Arthur Neuhaus clinched the match for the Broncos (5-7) on court four, defeating Arvid Hjalte 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
Santa Clara won the first two doubles matches to claim point one. Vasileios Iliopoulos and Mann Shah handled Felipe Acost and Javier Ruiz 6-4 on court one, followed by Jesus Barajas and Santiago Hinojosa's 6-4 doubles point clincher over Sergiu Bucur and Arvid Hijalte 6-4 on court two.
In singles action, the Broncos reeled off four straight wins before Utah State (3-11) closed out the afternoon with two wins.
Tapiador Barajas beat Felipe Acosta 6-4, 6-2 on court one for the first singles win. Hinojosa then took care of Christian Holmes 6-4, 6-2 on court five before Neuhaus' match clincher.
Iliopoulos picked up the final point for the Broncos with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ruiz to extend his team-high singles win streak to seven matches.
