SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis signed Dominic Barretto, a two-time co-captain at Cal, for the 2020-21 season. Broncos head coach Niall Angus made the announcement.

"I am extremely excited to be a part of the Santa Clara squad," said Barretto. "It was a tough decision, especially since I am choosing to leave my home and team at Cal, but I don't think I could have picked a better place in terms of the team, coaches, and academics. It will be a great year playing with guys I've battled against these last few years and I couldn't be more pumped to get started."

In his four years at Cal, Barretto posted a 48-29 singles and 32-20 doubles record before his senior season was cut short with the shutdown of spring sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The right-handed hitting Barretto closed out his 2019-20 campaign winning 11 of his last 12 completed singles matches and will have one season of eligibility.

Last fall, Barretto captured the top-flight singles title at the UC Santa Barbara Classic as well as advancing to the round of 16 at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships.

"We are very excited that Dominic will be joining us this fall," said Angus. "His character and leadership qualities, along with his wealth of experience competing at the highest level of college tennis will be a fantastic addition to our team and program. Dominic is a great athlete with a lot of grit and we expect him to make an instant impact on both our singles and doubles."
