SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's basketball added a key piece to their roster with the addition of freshman guard Jake Ensminger, who signed his official letter of intent and will join the Broncos for the 2022-23 season. Head coach Herb Sendek made the announcement on Wednesday.
"We are thrilled to officially welcome Jake to the Bronco Family," Sendek said. "Jake is an outstanding player who consistently impacts winning in a wide variety of ways. His versatility, basketball IQ, skillset, leadership and unselfishness are attributes that Jake will bring to the Broncos."
Although he is a native of the United States, Ensminger has lived in Germany with his parents for the majority of his educational career. He currently plays basketball for Ratiopharm Ulm, who is coached by his father, Chris Ensminger, a four-year star at Valparaiso who left the team in 1996 as the program's all-time leading rebounder.
Ensminger is also currently playing for OrangeAcademy, a member of Germany Pro B South. So far in 2021-22, he is averaging 9.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists in seven games, with three double-figure scoring outings. In the team's opener against FC Bayern Basketball II, Ensminger secured a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds while dishing out five assists. He currently has four games with at least seven rebounds and is coming off a 14-point, seven-rebound performance in his last outing.
A 6-foot-8 prospect, Ensiminger chose the Broncos over offers from Davidson, the University of Colorado and UC Santa Barbara. He will join Santa Clara with four years of eligibility remaining.
