NOTES

  • The Broncos will play host to the No. 2 team in the nation as Gonzaga comes to town for a 1:00 p.m. tip inside the Leavey Center. Attendance will be limited to 25 percent capacity due to concerns surrounding Covid-19 and the increase of the Omicron variant.

  • After having thier first four games of WCC play postponed due to Covid-19, the Broncos finally began their conference slate on Jan. 12 and did so with a bang as they took down Pacific 84-70 in Stockton. The win was a major milestone for head coach Herb Sendek as he picked up career victory No. 500.

  • Santa Clara is currently third in the WCC standings with an 11-5 overall record and 1-0 mark in league play.

  • With an 11-5 mark, Santa Clara has fared well this season despite dealing with a depleted roster throughout the entirety of the year. The Broncos have used five different lineups and have only been able to go with their intended starting five of PJ Pipes, Jalen Williams, Keshawn Justice, Josip Vrankic and Parker Braun six times.

  • The Broncos have scored a lot of points and have done so very efficiently through their first 16 games. Santa Clara currently ranks 15th nationally in both field goal percentage (49.1) and free throw percentage (78.2). They are also 21st nationally and the WCC leader in 3-point shooting at 38.3 percent.

  • Jalen Williams, recently named to the 2022 Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List, is the WCC's leading scorer at 19.0 points per game and has eight games of 20 or more points this season.
  • Keshawn Justice continues to control both ends of the court with 15.0 points per game offensively and a team-best 7.9 rebounds per game. He is eighth nationally with 7.50 defensive boards per game. Justice is poised to become the 36th player in program history to score 1,000 career points, needing just eight more to do so.
  • Saturday's opponent needs no introduction as one of the premier programs in nation. Gonzaga checks into the contest currently ranked No. 2 in the AP Poll and is riding a 23-game win streak in WCC play that dates back to Feb. 22, 2020. They have also won seven-straight road games, currently tied for the longest in the nation. The Zags are coming off a 110-84 win over BYU in Spokane and are currently in second in the WCC standings with a 13-2 overall mark and 2-0 start in WCC play.

  • Gonzaga is the nation's top scoring team with 89.3 points per game and a 53.5 field goal percentage. Two Bulldogs currently rank in the top 10 nationally in shooting (Chet Holmgren - 6th at 74.4 and Drew Timme - 8th at 64.1).

  • Saturday's game will be the 97th meeting all-time between the programs. Gonzaga leads the overall series 66-30, however the record is even at 23-23 in games played in Santa Clara. The Broncos' last win over the Bulldogs came on Jan. 20, 2011 in an 85-71 victory in Santa Clara.
