NOTES

  • The Broncos are playing in game No. 2 of their four games in eight days stretch that began with SCU's victory over San Diego. Santa Clara will host BYU for an 8 p.m. tip on Thursday before heading to San Francisco on Saturday. They will then return to the Leavey Center to host Pacific on Monday, Jan. 31, to end the stretch. Attendance for home games will be limited to 25 percent capacity due to concerns surrounding Covid-19 and the increase of the Omicron variant. Click here for more information.

  • Santa Clara is coming off a well-earned home victory over then-fourth place San Diego in overtime fashion. The Broncos won 78-74 in the Leavey Center in their first OT game since Jan. 23, 2020.

  • The Broncos are sitting in sixth in the WCC standings at 2-2 in league play and 12-7 overall.

  •  The Broncos rank in the top 30 nationally in field goal percentage (21st) and 3pt percentage (29th).

  •  All five Bronco Starters (PJ Pipes, Jalen Williams, Keshawn Justice, Josip Vrankic and Parker Braun) are averaging 10.0 ppg or better in WCC play.

  • Santa Clara is currently 11-1 in games in which they score at least 78 points. The only loss among that tally came at the hands of No. 2 Gonzaga (115-83).

  •  Keshawn Justice has been a dominating force on both ends of the floor. He is the WCC leader and 16th nationally in 3-point field-goal percentage (44.6) with multiple treys in 16-of-19 games. He has five games with at least four 3-pointers, including a season-high five triples against Pacific. On the boards, he ranks 16th nationally with 7.11 defensive rebounds per game. He has reached double-figure scoring in all but one game this season with two 20 point outings. Justice has six double-doubles on the season, which leads the WCC and ranks 36th nationally. He is currently averaging 15.9 points and 7.9 rebounds in the last seven games, and is coming off an 18 pt/8 reb game against San Diego.

  •  Josip Vrankic had a big night in his last outing against San Diego, scoring a game-high 22 points with seven rebounds and four assists. He scored six of Santa Clara's eight points in overtime, including the go-ahead score with under a minute to play. Vrankic now has three 20-point games on the season and 20 for his career. He also jumped up a spot on the school's all-time scoring list to 13th with 1,582 points.

  • BYU is currently second in the WCC standings at 5-1 and has the most overall wins in the league with a 17-4 overall record. The Cougars are one of the elite rebounding teams in the nation, ranking second with 840 boards on the season. They also defend the perimeter exceptionally well, allowing a WCC-low 28.5 3pt percentage to their opponents.

  •  BYU has mutliple players that are capable of putting up big scoring numbers with four players currently averaging 10.0 ppg or better in league play. Alex Barcello is the team's leading threat at 16.7 ppg on the year (4th in WCC).

  •  Historically-speaking, BYU has controlled the all-time series at 32-6 and has won the last four meetings. Santa Clara's last win over the Cougars came on Jan. 26, 2017, at home (76-68). BYU has fared well in games played in Santa Clara, taking 11 of the last 12 games played there, however the teams have not met inside the Leavey Center since Jan. 13, 2018.
