NOTES

  • Santa Clara is currently 1-1 in league play and 11-6 overall. The Broncos were punched in the mouth against then-No. 2 Gonzaga at home, 115-83, in their last outing. They will look to bounce back against the Gaels in Moraga where Santa Clara has won in their last two trips.

  • The Broncos are currently sixth in the WCC standings with an 11-6 overall record and 1-1 mark in league play.

  • Head Coach Herb Sendek and senior forward Keshawn Justice have each recorded career milestones in the last two games. Sendek picked up his 500th career victory over Pacific in Stockton, and Justice reached 1,000 career points against No. 2 Gonzaga.
  • The Broncos rank in the top 30 nationally in field goal percentage (20th), free throw percentage (27th) and 3-pt field goal percentage (29th).

  • Santa Clara is one of three teams in the WCC with four scorers averaging 10 ppg or better. Gonzaga and Portland are the others.

  • Thursday's game pits together one of the WCC's top scoring teams in Santa Clara (third with 77.3 ppg) against one of the nation's toughest defensive teams in Saint Mary's (WCC-leader and eighth nationally with 58.0 ppg allowed). The Gaels are currently fourth in the WCC standings with a 1-1 mark in league play and 13-4 overall. Their impressive nonconference resume includes a 2-1 record in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational where they defeated Notre Dame and Oregon before falling to Wisconsin in the championship.

  • As the most common opponent in program history, Santa Clara and Saint Mary's have met many, many times on the hardwood...230 times to be exact. The Broncos lead the overall series 137-92, however the Gaels have had the upper hand as of late with 11 wins in the last 15 meetings. Santa Clara broke an eight-game losing streak by taking the Gaels down in Moraga 67-66 in 2020. The Broncos won the lone meeting between the teams last year, also in Moraga, with a 66-64 final. Keshawn Justice scored 23 points to carry the Broncos to victory.
