Game Notes: Santa Clara | Hawai'i

NOTES

  • The Broncos are playing thier second of four-straight home games on Tuesday against Hawai'i. Santa Clara is looking to break a two-game losing skid after opening the season with five-straight victories.

  • After suffering a couple setbacks, the Broncos are looking to take advantage of their home nonconference schedule to close out the calendar year. The Broncos have five games inside the Leavey Center remaining before WCC play starts in January. Santa Clara is 24-1 in their last 25 games inside the Leavey Center against nonconference opponents.

  • Santa Clara has had four players score in double digits in six of seven games this year.

  • Keshawn Justice is playing some outstanding ball as of late and is especially shooting the ball well from 3-point range. He currently ranks 19th in the nation at 50 percent 3-pt shooting (19-38), and has knocked down at least two triples in every game this season with two games with four treys. He also has been the Broncos' most consistent rebounder at 7.7 per game, and is 23rd nationally (first in WCC) with 7.14 defensive rebounds per game. Justice secured his third-career double-double against Stanford (14 pts, 13 reb) and nearly had his second-straight against Nevada (18 pts, 8 reb). He has scored in double figures in all seven games and is coming off a season-high 20 points against UC Irvine.

  • The Broncos continue to put up some big offensive numbers. They continue to rank in the top-15 nationally in field goal percentage (11th), 3-point field goal percentage (13th) and total assists (15th). Additionally their 17.4 assists per game rank 24th and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.45) ranks 31st.

  • Hawai'i checks into the game with a 3-2 overall record that includes a 73-61 victory over the University of the Pacific. The Warriors have done a great job of rebounding, currently ranked 11th nationally in rebound marging (plus-11.6) as well as limiting their fouls - 33rd nationally with just 78 total fouls. Bernardo da Silva has been their top player early on with 15.3 points and 8.0 rebounds in three games.

  • Hawai'i and Santa Clara have squared off 27 times throughout the years, but not since 2006 when the Broncos claimed a 68-59 victory on Nov. 29. Santa Clara leads the series 20-6.

  • The Broncos have been one of the hottest teams in the nation when it comes to 3-point attempts. They currently rank 13th nationally at 42.0 percent beyond the arc and are second in the WCC in both total 3-point FG made (58) and 3-point FG per game (8.3). The Broncos top four scorers - Jalen Williams, Keshawn Justice, PJ Pipes and Josip Vrankic - are all currently shooting at least 36 percent from three. Justice has been red hot in that department where he is 19-of-38 with multiple 3s in every game. He currently ranks 19th nationally (second in WCC) with a 50 percent shooting clip from beyond the arc. Those numbers fare well for the Broncos as they are going up against a defense that is giving up 37.5 percent from beyond the arc (302nd nationally).
