SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's basketball has completed their 2022-23 signing class with the official addition of big man Christoph Tilly, a 6-foot-11 center from Germany. Head Coach Herb Sendek made the announcement on Thursday.
"We are thrilled to welcome Christoph to our Santa Clara Family," Sendek said. "Christoph is a versatile, talented player with a very bright and promising future. Bronco fans are going to enjoy watching him develop and compete, and will have fun cheering for him."
Tilly comes to the Bay Area after playing for Alba Berlin and LOK Bernau of the Germany - Pro B North league for two seasons. In those two years, he averaged 10.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest. 2020-21 saw the big man score in double figures in eight of the team's 15 games, including a pair of 20-point games. His season high was a 23-point outing with eight rebounds and three assists vs. RheinStars Koln. Tilly shot 57.3 percent from the floor and 60.6 percent inside the arc while averaging 11.2 points per contest.
Tilly followed that productive year with yet another this past season, which just recently wrapped up. He averaged 10.8 points per game while shooting 47 percent from the floor and averaging 5.9 boards. Tilly reached double figure scoring in 15 games with a season-best 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting in the season finale vs. Rhoendorf.
Tilly has also played for the German U18 Team for the 2021 Euro Challengers Tournament where he appeared in five games while averaging 9.8 points. In 2019, he was a part of the German U16 Team, where he appeared in seven games at the Euro Championship A.
Tilly joins the Broncos as a true freshman and will have for years of eligibility. He joins fellow freshmen signees Jake Ensiminger and Kosy Akametu, and transfers Brandin Podziemski and Carlos Marshall Jr. as part of the Broncos 2022-23 signing class.
