BOSTON - Santa Clara men's basketball junior guard Jalen Williams has been named a finalist for the 2022 Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award, as announced by CollegeInsider.com on Monday. Williams is one 40 finalists for the prestigious award.

Williams is one of just two players from the West Coast Conference on the list, joined by San Francisco's Jamaree Bouyea.

The award is presented annually to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball, and is named after Coach Lou Henson who won 775 career games over a 41-year career at Illinois and New Mexico State.

Players on teams from the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.

Williams is coming off a banner year in which he lead the WCC in scoring at 18.0 points per game while scoring 20 or more in 12 games en route to earning first team All-WCC and second team all-region honors. The Gilbert, Ariz., product finished the season with 594 total points, the eighth-most in school history. He notched a career-high 30 point game against Hawai'i and recorded just the second double-double of his career with 18 points and 10 assists in the Broncos' upset of No. 22 Saint Mary's. Williams also scored the game-winning bucket just before the buzzer to knock off BYU for the first time since 2017. He became the first Bronco since 2016-17 to earn NABC all-region honors and finished the year scoring in double figures in all but two games, both eight-point outings.

The winner of the Lou Henson Award will be announced on Friday, April 1 at the NCAA Final Four in New Orleans, La.
