Men's Basketball Adds Transfer Carlos Marshall Jr.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's basketball made a key addition to their roster on Friday in the form of transfer student-athlete Carlos Marshall Jr, who officially signed with the Broncos on Tuesday. Head coach Herb Sendek made the official announcement.

"We are very excited to welcome Carlos Marshall into our Santa Clara Family," Sendek said. "Carlos is a versatile competitor, a charismatic teammate and an experienced leader. The Bronco Nation will enjoy watching him play and have fun cheering for him."

Marshall joins Santa Clara as a graduate transfer from Tennessee State where he was a two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) selection. The 6-foot-6 guard from Memphis garnered all-conference honors last season as a redshirt junior after averaging 12.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. His 12.8 ppg average led the team and ranked 11th in the OVC. Marshall excelled from beyond the arc as the conference's second-best 3-point shooter at 40.6 percent while making 1.9 treys per contest, good for sixth in the OVC.

Marshall put together 18 double-digit scoring efforts including five 20-point outings last season. His biggest scoring output was a career-best 26 points against Campbellsville-Harrodsburg. He also had a pair of 25-point games, including against UT Martin in which he was 7-of-9 from 3-point range.

Marshall first got his feet wet with Tennessee State as a redshirt sophomore in 2019-20, quickly making his mark on the program by earning spots on both the All-OVC Second and All-Newcomer teams. That season saw him start 27 of 31 games for the Tigers while leading the team in scoring at 11.7 ppg and tallying 19 double-digit scoring games. He did not compete in either 2018-19 or 2020-21.

Marshall attended Southwind High School in Memphis and led the team to a 32-7 record and a spot in the Class AAA state championship game as a senior in 2017. He was named an all-state selection as a junior and earned a spot on the AAA All-Metro team as a senior. He signed with Southwest Tennessee Community College where he excelled on the hardwood in his lone season en route to earning First Team All-Tennessee Community College Athletics Association Region Seven Honors. He was the team's second-leading scorer at 12.8 ppg with a career-high of 30 points on 10-of-14 3-point shooting against Blue Mountain College.
