Men's Basketball Picks Up Another Guard Signee In Kosy Akametu

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Another young, talented prospect has made the decision to sign with Santa Clara men's basketball. Kosy Akametu, a 6-foot-6 guard from Carson, Calif., has officially signed with the Broncos and will join the team as a true freshman for the 2022-23 season. Head coach Herb Sendek made the announcement.

"We are thrilled to welcome Kosy to our Bronco Basketball Family and Santa Clara University Community," Sendek said. "Kosy is an athletic, versatile competitor who can impact winning on both ends of the floor. Bronco Natinon will enjoy cheering for Kosy!"

Akametu was an under the radar prospect at King Drew High School in South Los Angeles where his senior season was limited to just four regular season games due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The explosive prospect decided to join L.A. Premier Prep where he put up very impressive numbers in his one season of work. Akametu averaged 19.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting the ball at a 35 percent clip from 3-point range and 60 percent inside the arc.

This spring, Akametu has been playing with the Oakland Soldiers AAU Program in the EYBL Elite Youth Session in Louisville, Ky. In seven games so far, he is averaging 10.6 points and 4.1 rebounds in 23.4 minutes of work. That includes a season-high 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting on April 23 against the Vegas Elite.

Akametu joins Santa Clara over offers from Xavier and St. Bonaventure among others. He is the Broncos' fourth signee for the class of 2022-23 along with fellow freshman Jake Ensminger and transfers Carlos Marshall Jr. and Brandin Podziemski.
