SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer has added alum Michelle Myers as its director of operations. Myers was a four-year letter winner on the Bronco soccer team and has close ties to the current coaching staff, having played for head coach Jerry Smith and coached under associate head coach Gregg Murphy.
"I am extremely excited to return to my alma mater," Myers said. "Santa Clara is a special place and I am grateful for this opportunity to work with Jerry, Gregg, Curtis, and this outstanding group of players. My experience as a student-athlete at SCU was the best four years of my life and I hope I can help current and future Broncos experience the same."
Myers spent last season as an assistant coach at Oregon State where she helped with all aspects of the program with an off-the-field emphasis on team travel, meals, and compliance.
Prior to her year in Corvallis, Myers spent 24 seasons at Loyola Marymount, the last eight as head coach. She also served as an assistant under Murphy.
During her time at the helm of LMU, Myers helped the program to 63 wins and a trip to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2015. That season she was named WCC Coach of the Year as the team went 15-6-1 overall and 7-2 in the WCC. In her eight years, the Lions had 26 All-WCC selections.
As an assistant, Myers helped guide the program to two NCAA appearances, including the first ever in 2002.
"We're very excited to add a former player and someone with so much experience coaching in the WCC," Smith said. "Michelle will add tremendous experience in running a Division I women's soccer program and will be a wonderful addition to an already great staff."
Since 1996, she has worked with the Cal South Olympic Development Program (ODP). Myers has 16 ODP regional championships and eight national titles, the most recent being in 2016 with the 2000G Cal South team which included current Bronco Skylar Smith.
Prior to her time at the collegiate level, Myers coached Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, one of the top prep programs in the country. While there from 1992-95, she went 46-20-11 with back-to-back South Coast League championships in 1994 and 1995.
During her time as a player at Santa Clara, Myers helped lead the team to a record of 46-17-10. Her senior season was the first for Smith. That year the team went 10-4-3 and was ranked for the first time in program history at No. 17. In 1985, she was voted the team's most improved player.
A graduate of Rosary High School in Fullerton, Calif., Myers graduated Magna cum laude from Santa Clara with a Bachelor's degree in combined sciences in 1988.
