HIGHLIGHTS: Women's Soccer Defeats LMU, 6-0
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Seniors played a big role as Santa Clara women's soccer cruised past LMU 6-0 on Senior Day.
After one goal in the first half, the Broncos (10-5-2, 7-1 WCC) exploded for five goals in the second half to turn it into a blowout. If they win Saturday at Saint Mary's, the Broncos will clinch at least a share of their second consecutive and 12th West Coast Conference title overall while earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament due to holding the tiebreaker over BYU.
Senior Kaile Halvorsen starred on the night, scoring a pair of goals in less than a minute. Fellow senior Marika Guay also added a goal and an assist with Kelsey Turnbow and Diana Morales each chipping in an assist.
Also getting in the box score was Izzy D'Aquila and Nicole Sweeney who both scored a goal and had an assist and Cianna Elmazaj who found back of the net late. Ellie Glenn, Colby Barnett, Lucy Mitchell, and Rachel Bastone each added an assist.
For the night, Santa Clara outshot the Lions (0-18, 0-8 WCC) 22-2 and held a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Broncos also earned 15 corner kicks.
Kendyll Humphries made four saves for LMU and Sadie Kenny added one over the final 20 minutes. Kylie Foutch started for Santa Clara and made one save with Felicity Baker not facing a shot in her 23 minutes of action.
