SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 3-1 all-time against Duke. This will be the first meeting in the NCAA Tournament.
The last meeting was in Durham in 2019 that Duke won 3-2 in overtime.
NOTES
- The defending national champion Broncos are in the NCAA quarterfinals for the second year in a row for the first time since 2004 and 2005. A victory against Duke sends them home for the College Cup, which is slated to be played in Santa Clara. The semifinals are on Friday, Dec. 3 and the championship game on Sunday, Dec. 5.
- Santa Clara topped Wisconsin 2-1 in the third round to earn its eighth-straight NCAA Tournament victory.
- Santa Clara has been to 31 NCAA Tournaments, 11 College Cups (1989, 1990, 1992, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2020, 2021), and won two National Championships (2001, 2020). The program became just the seventh with two or more national titles. Only three teams have more. They have 60 NCAA Tournament wins.
- The Broncos have won the West Coast Conference 12 times (1993, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2013, 2020, 2021).
- Kylie Foutch was named the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Kelsey Turnbow took home Offensive Player of the Week on November 1.
- Santa Clara is one of just three teams to make the third round in each of the last three years. The other teams are Florida State and Penn State. The Broncos are just one of five teams to make the third round of the NCAA Tournament five of the last six seasons. The other teams are North Carolina (2016-20), UCLA (2016-20), Florida State (2017-21), Virginia (2016-18, 2020-21), and Duke (2016-17, 2019-20).
- Kelsey Turnbow is in fifth place at Santa Clara in career goals with 55. Next is Jenni Symons and Jacqui Little with 63 each. She is in now tied for fifth with Little with 37 assists. Next is Erin Martinez with 38. Turnbow is also at 147 points, which is fifth. Next is Jenny Fechner's 156.
- Turnbow joined Mandy Clemens (67), Jenny Fechner (66), Jenni Symons (63), Jacqui Little (63), and Mikka Hansen (52) as the only Broncos in the 50-goal club with a pair of scores at Pacific.
- Santa Clara has 62 NCAA Tournament wins.
- Head coach Jerry Smith is in his 35th year. He has 522 career wins, the third most Division I wins in women's soccer history.
