Women's Soccer Sweeps WCC Weekly Awards

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer swept the West Coast Conference's weekly awards after a 1-0 victory over No. 11 BYU on Saturday that moved the Broncos into a tie atop the conference standings.

Goalkeeper Kylie Foutch was named the Defensive Player of the Week after shutting out the Cougars who entered as the top scoring team in the nation. Kelsey Turnbow was Offensive Player of the Week for scoring the lone goal in the match.

Foutch made a pair of monster saves over the final minutes of action to keep the clean sheet. In all, she made five saves and became just the third keeper this year to shutout BYU who came in scoring 3.87 goals per match. Over their previous nine matches since their last shutout, the Cougars had scored 45 goals.

Turnbow's tally came in the 74th minute. A lobbed pass came into the box and she out-worked two BYU defenders to get a foot on it and find the back of the net. She leads the team with nine goals this season.

The Broncos are back in action Wednesday at 7 p.m. against LMU for Senior Day.
