No. 2 Women's Soccer Off to Cal for Sunday Showdown

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Opening week continues as No. 2 Santa Clara women's soccer heads to Cal Sunday at 4 p.m.

The Broncos opened the week with a 3-0 victory over San Jose State at home.

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 20-23-7 all-time against Cal with the first meeting coming in 1980. The last meeting was a 1-0 Santa Clara win at home in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

NOTES
Kelsey Turnbow is in sixth place in program history with 47 goals. She is behind No. 5 Mikka Hansen and her 52 goals. Turnbow is also at 118 points, No. 8 behind Leslie Osborne's 122.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (1-0) put up a dominant performance against the Spartans in their first game of the season. The Broncos fired 29 shots with 13 going on target and three off of the woodwork. They held San Jose State to four shots and three on goal.

Kelsey Turnbow, Marika Guay, and Cianna Elmazaj each scored goals with Alyssa Bourgeois picking up an assist in her Broncos debut. In all, 23 players saw minutes, showing off the teams enviable depth.

THE BEARS
Cal (1-0) also opened its season Thursday with a 3-0 win on the road at UC San Diego. Cal put up 23 shots with 15 on goal while allowing four shots and three on target.

Paige Metayer, Mia Fontana, and Jordyn Young scored for the Bears with Abby Borchers and Ayo Oke both adding an assist.
