Women's Soccer Has Pair Earn All-American Nods

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Santa Clara women's soccer had two players named United Soccer Coaches All-America for the second season in a row. Kelsey Turnbow took home first team honors while Alex Loera was named to the second team. Last year Turnbow was third team and Loera was second.

The two Broncos have been instrumental in leading the team to back-to-back College Cup appearances for the first time since 2001-02. After taking home the program's second title in during the 2020 season, both seniors returned for a fifth year and have a chance to lead the team to consecutive titles, a feat only accomplished by North Carolina.

Turnbow, a five-time First Team All-West Region and All-WCC pick, leads the team in goals (11), assists (12), points (34), and game-winning goals (5). She scored the match-winner in the quarterfinals at Duke and scored at Georgetown. She is a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy and a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award. This is her fifth First Team All-West Region selection.

Loera, the WCC Defender of the Year for the third year in a row and a first team pick for the fourth time, is second on the team in assists despite playing in the back line. She has also scored three times, including the game-winner in double overtime at Saint Mary's to seal a share of the WCC title as well as a goal at Georgetown in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. A team captain, Loera led a defense that has allowed 0.86 goals per match while posting nine clean sheets. She recently received her third-straight First Team All-West Region nod.

Santa Clara takes on fourth-seeded BYU tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. in the national semifinals on Buck Shaw Field at Stevens Stadium. The first match of the day will be between a pair of top seeds in Florida State and Rutgers at 4 p.m. If Santa Clara wins the Broncos will take on the winner of the Seminoles and Scarlet Knights at 5 p.m. Sunday for the National Championship. If the Cougars win, the title match will be Monday. All matches will be on ESPNU.
