STOCKTON, Calif. – After finding its offensive flow in the previous match, Santa Clara women's soccer kept it going with a 3-1 win at Pacific Wednesday night despite an early deficit.
The Tigers (9-2-1, 1-1 WCC) got on the board in the third minute to jump out in front but the Broncos (5-4-2, 2-0 WCC) defense shut things down after that, allowing just four shots and two on goal in the match while the offense put nine of its 16 shots on target.
Kelsey Turnbow had a big match, scoring twice, once in the 17th to tie the score and again in the 40th to give her team the lead. The goals put her at 51 in her career and made her just the sixth Santa Clara player to reach the 50-goal mark. She joins Mandy Clemens (67), Jenny Fechner (66), Jenni Symons (63), Jacqui Little (63), and Mikka Hansen (52).
Also scoring was Keren Goor in the 56th.
Turnbow got the scoring going with some fancy footwork. After receiving a pass from Alex Loera, she dribbled around defenders and deep into the box before slotting a shot inside the far post.
Her second came from the penalty spot after she was taken down in the box on a dangerous run.
The third goal from Goor came off a corner kick. Kaile Halvorsen took the set piece and sent it to Goor way outside the box and her service in found the back of the net. Skylar Smith didn't get credited with an assist, but she jumped and blocked the goalkeepers view at the last second.
After the early goal, Kylie Foutch faced just one shot on target and made the save.
Brenna Crump finished the night with six saves but this was the first time all year she had given up multiple goals and had been working on a 434-minute shutout streak.
