Two Women's Soccer Players Taken in NWSL Draft

CHICAGO – Santa Clara women's soccer had a pair selected in the 2021 NWSL draft. Julie Doyle was taken in the first round, 11th overall, by the Orlando Pride and Kaile Halvorsen was taken in the third round, 32nd overall, by OL Reign.

Doyle, who finished her career after the 2020 season and the team's National Championship, appeared in 70 games for the Broncos and made 55 starts over her four years. She scored 16 goals, including seven game-winners, and added 14 assists for 46 points. Her performance led to First Team All-West Region and All-WCC nods as a senior when she helped Santa Clara to its second National Championship. As a junior she was named Second Team All-WCC and as a freshman she was First Team All-WCC and All-Freshman.

Halvorsen appeared in 75 games while starting 19, including 15 during the 2021 season. She scored seven goals and added three assists with three goals and two assists coming during her senior year. She made her presence felt with her speed, running down long balls and wreaking havoc on opposing defenses.

Doyle and Halvorsen will join former teammates Kelsey Turnbow and Alex Loera who were drafted in January before returning for the 2021 season and helping the Broncos back to the College Cup.
