Women's Soccer Falls at Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – Santa Clara women's soccer's five match winning streak came to an end in a 2-0 defeat at Portland on Saturday night.

A pair of goals from the Pilots (7-7-, 3-3 WCC) in the span of three minutes midway through the first half proved to be the only offense of the night. Taryn Ries and Jamie Rita scored the goals with Ellie Walker and Nedya Sawan collecting assists.

The Broncos (8-5-2, 5-1 WCC) held a sizeable advantage in shots at 19-8 and also held the edge in shots on goal at 8-4. The difference was even greater in the second half as Santa Clara outshot Portland 12-1 and 7-0 in shots on frame.

They made a push over the final minutes but Bre Norris was up to the challenge and posted a clean sheet with eight saves.

Kylie Foutch made a pair of saves for Santa Clara.

NOTES

  • Santa Clara is now 21-16-4 all-time against Portland.
  • The Broncos' 20-match WCC unbeaten streak and 16 match WCC winning streak came to an end. They hadn't dropped a conference game since Oct. 27, 2018 at BYU. It was the second longest conference winning streak in program history, behind 19 in a row from 1997-2000.
  • Kelsey Turnbow stays in fifth place at Santa Clara in career goals with 53. Next is Jenni Symons and Jacqui Little with 63 each. She is 10th all-time at with 33 assists. Next is Osborne with 34. Turnbow is also at 133 points, which is fifth. Next is Jenny Fechner's 156.
