Men's Golf Signs A Pair of Recruits

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's golf has signed Cameron Kaiser and Jolo Magcalayo to national letters of intent. Both will join the Broncos for the 2020-21 season.

Kaiser is from Scottsdale, Arizona, and attended Brophy College Prep where he was ranked No. 46 nationally according to Junior Golf Scoreboard.

Magcalayo hails from Santa Rosa, Laguna in the Philippines and attended De la Salle Santiago Zobel, Vermosa Campus. He is the top-ranked amateur golfer in the Philippines and was part of the Philippines National Training Pool for men at age 13.

"I couldn't be more excited for the class of 2021," Santa Clara head coach Andrew Larkin said. "Both Cameron and Jolo have had outstanding junior year careers and have the chance to come to Santa Clara and make an impact on the program from day one. Both of them have shown the ability to not only win on the golf course but to post scores in the low 60s. They are great young men that have a desire to improve and also be great leaders for our program."

Kaiser won the Willie Low Invitational and the Tucson City Junior as well as the Sportsmanship of the Year Award from the Junior Golf Association of Arizona. He had a 71.1 scoring average in junior golf with a career-low round of 64 and four tournament rounds of 66 or lower during the last year.

"Cameron has grown into one of the top players in the state of Arizona over the last couple years," Larkin said. "He has one of the best work ethics I have seen and I believe he will set the tone for how our program focuses on their game. Cameron has shown the ability to consistently post rounds under-par, a trait that has led him to be a top-50 player in the class of 2021. I think Cameron has a chance to not only be a major player for the program but a future leader."

Magcalayo is ranked No. 380 in World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) and won the 2019 Thailand Junior Championship.

"Jolo has had an outstanding junior career," said Larkin. "He has played at a championship level both in the states and abroad and has proven his game can travel anywhere. He has a huge passion for the game and while he has already become a top-400 amateur in the world, I believe he has another level in his game he has yet to tap into. I am excited to get Jolo on campus in September to see what he does from day one."

Magcalayo represented his country at the 2015 Asia Pacific Amateur Golf Championship in Abu Dhabi and the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia in 2017 while also being the first player from the Philippines to qualify for two consecutive US Junior Championships in 2018 and 2019.

Magcalayo has wins at the 44th Boys Junior PGA Championship (where he tied the single-round record at 9-under-par, the AJGA Junior, and the AJGA Preview. He is a three-time selection for the IMG Junior World and USKG World Championship.

He helped lead is high school to three straight Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP) Inter-School championships and won the individual title in 2018.
