Men's Golf Heads to Sacramento State Invitational

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's golf will participate in its first team tournament of the season with all 10 members of the roster teeing it up in the Sacramento State Invitational.

The two-day event will be held at the Valley Hi Country Club in Elk Grove, California, and begin on Monday with 36 holes of play without fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Matt McCarty, Jack Avrit, Alejandro Gutierrez, Berk Harvey and Johnny Ward will comprise the five-man squad for the Broncos in the 14-team tournament.

"We are excited to be back in a full team event for the first time in almost a year," head coach Andrew Larkin said. "The guys have worked really hard over the past few weeks and are rounding into great form. This event will be a great first showcase of where this team is going.

Konrad Brauckmeyer, Alex Conley, Nolan Forsman, Zack Kaneshiro and Oscar Zimmerman will play as individuals on the par-72, 6,514-yard course.

"We are lucky to have a chance to get the entire roster back into competition," Larkin said. "Each guy gets the chance to showcase the growth they have made over the coming month and set a tone for our season to come."

Last week, the Broncos met Stanford in a match-play event with the Cardinal claiming an 8-5 victory between head-to-head and foursome play.

A shotgun start of 8:15 a.m. is set for Monday, as well as Tuesday for the final 18 holes. Following scoring on Golfstat.com.
