Men's Golfer Moves Up Leaderboard on Day Two of NCAA Regional

CLE ELUM, Wash. - Matt McCarty of Santa Clara men's golf has put himself in position to advance to the NCAA Championship final.

McCarty shot an even-par 71 in Tuesday's second round to improve five spots into a tie for 10th at 1-under-par at the NCAA Cle Elum Regional.

Playing as an individual, the fifth-year senior is within striking distance to advance out of the regional. He shot a 1-under 70 in Monday's opening round.

McCarty is among seven golfers tied for 10th and can punch his ticket to the final if he is the top individual not on one of the five advancing teams.

The NCAA final will be held May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

East Tennessee State, with three golfers in the top six, is well ahead of the other 12 remaining teams in the regional at 18-under 550. San Francisco, which has two golfers in the top nine, is second at 7-under and host Washington is third at 6-under.

The final round is set to begin at 8 a.m. and McCarty is scheduled to tee off at 10:34 a.m. Follow scoring at Golfstat.com.
