Men’s Golf Tied for 16th After 18 Holes of The Goodwin

STANFORD, Calif.Matt McCarty's 2-under 68 led Santa Clara men's golf on Thursday, the opening day of The Goodwin.

McCarty is tied for eighth and Jack Avrit tied for 37th at 1-over for the Broncos who are tied for 16th at 11-over 291 after 18 holes in Stanford's annual tournament which features 28 schools this year.

The Cardinal lead the field after firing a 5-under 275. Arizona State is three shots back in second. Denver and San Diego are tied for third at 1-under 279 on the 6,727-yard Stanford Golf Course, which is closed to the public for the event.

Blake Hathcoat of Saint Mary's and Sam Harned of Nevada share the individual lead at 7-under 63.

Teeing off from the 10th the hole, McCarty was even on his front nine and carded a pair of birdies on the back nine.

Berk Harvey's 75 has him tied for 88th and Oscar Zimmerman shot a 77 to tie for 111th in the field of nearly 150 players. Alex Conley had a 79.

The Broncos will tee off at noon in Friday's second round. The tournament concludes Saturday. Follow the scoring on Golftstat.com.
