Men’s Golf Tied for Seventh After 18 Holes of El Macero Classic

EL MACERO, Calif.Matt McCarty's 2-under-par 70 led Santa Clara men's golf on Saturday, the opening day of the El Macero Classic.

McCarty is in a three-way tie for eighth and the Broncos are tied for seventh after 18 holes in the 15-team tournament which is being held at El Macero Country Club.

Saint Mary's is first at 10-under 278 and host UC Davis is second at 6-under.

Ethan Farmer is atop the individual leaderboard in the three-day event at 7-under 65, three shots ahead of Matthew Sutherland of Fresno State. There is a five-way tie for third at 3-under.

Jack Avrit helped the Broncos move up the leaderboard as the day went along. After sitting at 3-over-par through six holes, Avrit had four birdies on the back nine and ended in a tie for 24th place at 1-over.

Berk Harvey also closed strong, going 2-under over his final four holes. He is tied for 35th at 2-over.

Oscar Zimmerman rounded out the scoring for Santa Clara, posting a 4-over 76 to tie for 50th.

The tournament also features a number of individuals, including five Broncos. That group of 24 is playing in what is being designated the Wildhorse Classic at Wildhorse Golf Club in Davis, California.

Nolan Forsman led the way for Santa Clara entries at 1-under 71. He is in fifth place.

The tournament continues with 18 holes on Sunday and concludes on Monday.
