Meet the Future of Santa Clara Women's Basketball: Ashlyn Herhily

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball welcomes wing Ashlyn Herlihy from Arroyo Grande, Calif. as one of three members of the signing class of 2016-17. Herlihy attended Arroyo Grande High School and was coached by Bryan Hutchens.

"I chose Santa Clara because of its academic excellence and commitment to athletic success," said Herlihy. "When visiting campus I was struck by the beauty and location of the university. I was also impressed with the coaching staff's vision for the program and I am proud to have the opportunity to be a part of it. I believe Santa Clara is the ideal place to thrive."

"Ashlyn is Santa Clara through and through," said Santa Clara head coach JR Payne. "She is an absolute perfect fit for our program and university in general. Ashlyn is incredibly versatile and will have the ability to play 2-4 for us. She is a tremendous shooter and with her size, will be a mismatch for our opponents."

Herlihy averaged 19.9 points per game, 10.0 rebounds per game, and 3.5 blocks per game as a junior. She was named PAC 8 league MVP, San Luis Obispo County player of the year, Santa Barbara all-area MPV, and Eastside Prep Tournament MVP.

As a sophomore she averaged 12.7 ppg, 10.7 rpg, and 3.6 bpg. That year she was named first team all-league and first team all San Luis Obispo County.

Her team went 24-3 and set a record for winning percentage at her school in 2014-15. That season they were undefeated PAC 8 league champions and Eastside Prep Tournament champions.

Herlihy enjoys going to the beach, listening to music, hanging out with family and friends, and hiking.
